Quite a bit of discussion in the UK at the moment about the recently advertized post of Librarian for the House of Commons (one of the two houses of parliament). Very high salary for a UK Librarian. Cause for discussion is that the librarian is paid more than a Member of Parliament.
The origins of the Library of the House stretch back as far as 1547 when the Clerk of the time compiled the first journal of the proceedings of the Commons. Today, the Library Department provides Members with a sophisticated research and information function and assists them with enquiries on parliamentary process and policy formulation. … We are now looking for a new Librarian to provide strong management and leadership and to take the Department through a period of ambitious change.
