OCLC has just released a press-release about its Web scale library management services. For some context see Andrew’s note:
OCLC is extending the WorldCat Local platform to include circulation and delivery, print and electronic acquisitions, and license management components. A quick start version of WorldCat Local–available at no additional charge to FirstSearch WorldCat subscribers–is a first step to WorldCat Local and to a truly next-generation cooperative library management service. [And now for something completely different – Hectic Pace]
Further details and directions are available here.
Through its cataloging and resource sharing services OCLC and its members have shown the value of shared network level activity. These new services extend that model to generate efficiencies across a wider range of library operations.
